Distribution Center Project

PRINT FACT SHEET

A Wal-Mart distribution center in Merced isn’t just about hundreds of new, good paying jobs; it is about serving the community, too.

Wal-Mart prides itself on being a good neighbor. Like our Wal-Mart store, which has been part of the Merced community for over 14 years, our proposed distribution center will strive to be a good neighbor and working partner.

A Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Merced Means:

  • Job Opportunities – Up to 1000 new jobs in the first year of operation, 600 of which will be full-time positions. Full-time positions will grow to 900 associates once fully operational, and approximately 600 construction jobs will be created to build an environmentally friendly and energy efficient building.
  • Competitive Pay –The average pay for full-time hourly associates at our current operating California Distribution Centers is $16.50 per hour.
  • Associate Benefits – Associates are eligible for a full benefits package including medical, dental, 401k, profit sharing program, merchandise discounts, paid vacations and more.
  • Green Fleet – Wal-Mart’s 2007 generation trucks have innovative design features which will reduce fuel consumption and contribute to cleaner air in our communities.
  • Charitable Donations – Since 2000, Wal-Mart has contributed over $2.5 million to local causes and non-profit organizations we serve throughout the Central Valley.

We look forward to working with the residents of Merced to bring further economic development to the community by providing good jobs, competitive pay and benefits, and purchasing from local California businesses.
